Food Friday
"W" is for Whatever...so I'm posting this recipe because I found it after searching out how these pickles were named.

Bread and Butter Pickles
This is a fresh tasting pickle relish that tastes delicious served simply with bread and butter - hence the name.

3 large cucumbers, sliced
3 tbsp salt
4 onions, skinned and sliced
21 oz white vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp celery seed
1 tsp mustard seed

1. Put the cucumbers, salt and onion in a large bowl, and leave for 1 hour. Rinse well then drain.
2. Heat the vinegar, sugar, celery and mustard seed until the sugar has dissolved. Then boil for a further 3 minutes.
3. Pack the drained vegetables into sterilized jars, and add enough hot vinegar mixture to cover completely. Seal immediately.
