Attack of the Killer Mist
Just before I left on vacation, I noticed some condensation on the one side of my fridge and on the floor just below the door. Whirlpool sucks, as this fridge was purchased just over 2 years ago - in the aftermath of the great July blackout that hit the East Coast. When I hold my hand in front of either location, I can feel a very faint mist coming from the fridge. It wasn't that much, in fact there were days when it wasn't apparent at all. It seemed to be associated with higher humidity - even though I have the central A/C running non-stop. I called last Thursday to have scheule a service call, but they couldn't fit me in until this Saturday morning (or I'd have to take another day off work to be here for them). Of course, the minute I called last week - it stopped again....and didn't pick up again until yesterday.
Today, I arrived home from work to find a fairly significant puddle of water on the floor - and my laminate countertop has completely warped where it lays next to the fridge. SHIT. I don't need this at all.
On a bright note - if my homeowner's insurance in any way covers this - it will be a nice offset toward those black granite countertops I've been eyeing.
ETA: Oh, no....upon closer inspection - the entire floor underneath the fridge has a thin layer of water. I'm not a happy camper at all....
Update (8:52pm): Crisis avoided - Since Sears couldn't come see me before Saturday morning, I called a local service company. A very nice gentleman helped me troubleshoot the issue over the phone - frickin' water line to the ice maker has a leak. I turned off the water on that - and they'll be out tomorrow afternoon to repair it. At least it's done leaking until it's fixed. Estimated cost: $50.
