Waterlogged
The flood waters are finally receding. This afternoon's quick rain shower once again flooded my street, but the new water drained within an hour.
My home had zero damage, amazingly...just minor flooding in the garage, which was a pretty quick clean-up once the water receded. I was trapped in my neighborhood until Saturday afternoon when the water in the street drained enough to drive through. My oldest brother's home had 3 feet of water in the finished basement...now he has an unfinished basement after a good cleaning and bleach soak-down. My other brother had no damage to his home (he lives in the hills), but his boat is still missing...surely drifting around Lake Erie with the other 100+ boats that are still lost. Being a police officer, he hasn't had much time to look for it, since he's been working double shifts since Friday helping out his community. My friend's basement had minor flooding - but no water is fun when your $450K home is on the market. The news helicopters have finally stopped hovering over my home....and the cats are quite pleased with that.
All headaches aside, it really could have been more devastating. There were homes in the area with water up to their second floor - the residents were rescued via boat out of their 2nd story windows. There are over 100 homes within 5 miles of my place which are complete losses. There are a handful of bridges which washed away by the flood waters. The area is still experiencing landslides and sinkholes today. Given what could have been, we were blessed that only our possessions were lost.
