And so it begins...

Just days after losing/dismissing (you pick the right term) the second of their three quarterbacks, the Browns signed a new quarterback. Of course, I immediately googled him to see who the hell he is. Per his stats on NFL.com, this is what we get:
  • an 11-year veteran (another old man)
  • his lifetime attempts/completions? 2620/1447, which translates to 55.2% success.
  • yards per completion? 17031/1447....11.7 yards - not bad.
  • number of career TDs? 95
  • number of career interceptions? 105
  • total rating? 70.6
Not bad, you say? Well, I was quite partial to this one, who we lost to free agency. Here are his stats for comparison...
  • 9-year veteran (becoming an old man)
  • his lifetime attempts/completions? 580/368, which translates to 63.4% success.
  • yards per completion? 3892/368....10.5 yards.
  • number of career TDs? 27
  • number of career interceptions? 29
    total rating? 77.6
While Kelly wasn't a GREAT quarterback, he stepped onto the field and took charge. Receivers who didn't/wouldn't respond to Jeff Garcia suddenly made amazing catches...the offensive line that allowed Garcia to be sacked over and over again suddenly gave Kelly enough time to get the job done. We will miss you, Kelly.

So, I raise my coffee mug to Trent Dilfer, whoever the hell he may be. Welcome to Cleveland, the home of the Dawg Pound. We're hungry for a decent season...I recommend you are as well.
