It all comes out in the wash

Just when we almost believed that FOX had simply made a tiny boo-boo, we find that the FOX execs can be as manipulative and self-promoting as Mario Vazquez himself. Soooo, they're cancelling this show the same week that American Idol votes are skewed and require that hour of Thursday night programming. I couldn't care less about the PP cancellation, but you tell me, coincidence or not....

FOX cancels "Point Pleasant"
Marti Noxon confirms it in this post today at whedonesque.com:

Hey all...Well, it's all true. We're cancelled and we're off for good. No new ep on Thursday... In a way I'm glad because Thursday's episode didn't quite come together the way I would have liked and I would have hated for that to be our final word. Eps 9-12 were going to be pretty cool,though. Lots of twists and scary stuff. Anyway - thanks to those of you who care. It's been a bumpy ride for sure. If you feel inclined you can bug Fox studios to issue the season on DVD. I know they are thinking about it - and you'd get to see all the "lost" eps, which will be airing overseas. Again - thanks for watching. We had a blast.
