My cable company added a ton of new channels. 98% of which, don't interest me at all. (Who watches the Westerns channel?) However, they did up my premium channels to 15 HBO and 12 Showtime. Do you know why this is important? Because you can watch all those guilty childhood pleasures...you know, the movies that you loved for the cheesiest of reasons, yet are sucked back into again each time they are aired !!
Yesterday's bliss: Ice Castles
Back in 1978, as an 11 year old regional-level skater, I was completely enamored by Robby Benson. Damn, this was his best role, next to his portrayal of Billy Joe McCallister. If only I'd had him in my life, I could have been the next national champ. Bonus points: Colleen Dewhurst. Not only was she clearly one of the most underrated actresses ever (Anne of Green Gables, anyone???)...but she gave us Campbell Scott, the star of another personal guilty pleasure, Dying Young.
This morning's glee: Grease 2
Sure, Michelle Pfeiffer probably wants to permanently erase this adventure from her bio....but it WAS her breakthrough role. I very much wanted a COO-OO-OO-oooL Rider back in 1982. What more could one ask for than a musical which provides us with great hits like "Reproduction", "Let's do it for Our Country", and the classic "A Girl for all Seasons"....with a showstopper like "Cool Rider". Bonus: The Sagal twins...where did Jean and Liz go after "Double Trouble"??
