This Grinch's heart...
The business trip to Tampa was near-torture. I was forced to endure dinners as the only woman among the Revenge of the Nerds gang. Dinner chatter revolved around coefficients, regression, algorithms, Chi-Squared tests, and lamdas. The flight back yesterday was jampacked, with screaming children throughout. I muttered to myself that I'd never travel on business the week before the Holidays...and would certainly join future meetings of this team via teleconference.
As Grandma-next-to-me, who had bounced around in her seat the entire flight, jabbed my ribs for the umpteenth time during our final descent into Cleveland, I turned toward her to give her a piece of my mind. At that instant, we emerged from the clouds and each and every child on the plane screamed "SNOW...SNOOOOOWWWW...SNOOOOW". My heart grew 5 times its size at that moment. Doe-eyed Grandma-next-to-me looked at me, awaiting what I was going to say...."The joy of Christmas is best seen through the children's eyes, huh?" Some annoyances are best kept to ourselves.
