Sometimes I hate what I do...
Just a thought about rebuilding New Orleans...I predict the insurance industry will deem the cause of loss in this city as flood, not hurricane (act of god). Therefore, unless the property owners specifically purchased flood insurance, they will not be compensated at all for the loss by their insurance companies. With most of the city's elevation at or below sea level - I'm fairly sure the majority of property owners did not carry flood insurance due to cost. Flood coverage in the Cleveland area (Cleveland elevation is 600-1,100 feet above sea level) averages around $450/year.
Is it wrong of me to think the government should not permit the rebuilding of New Orleans? At least not until they bring in a whole lot of dirt to fill that "bowl" up to at least sea level. Setting aside any future natural disaster which could repeat this all over again - I think it's been made pretty clear to terrorists that they just need to blow up the levies to flood the city.
I'm also looking into a large parcel of land in Montana and a few shotguns - cuz I have lost any and all faith I ever had in our government's ability to handle evacuations/rescues/recoveries after a natural or terrorist disaster.
